Inspired by local sculpture and original music from emerging composers (Alumi from University of Hertfordshire and students from Hertfordshire College of Music) dancers, artists and theatre designers join together to transform the space into a magical set. The Young Curators will be launching the new children's gallery called 'The Glass Hideaway' where they will be curating a small schools exhibition around the theme of theatre and dance. A packed programme of activities and live dance events will make this a dramatic, must see show.
Events:
Opening Night! Friday 20th February - 6.30pm - 8.30pm - Come along to see two spectacular live performances by Makin’ Steps, as well as film projections of dances, created by Hip Hop Pop and the Karen Chapman School of Dancing. Other dance schools will also be having live dance events on Saturdays and evenings which can be viewed on our events page.
This evening will also be the official opening of ‘The Glass Hideaway’ the new dedicated children’s gallery curated by our Young Curators. With work by several local schools inspired by our Light, Art, Action! theme.
Wednesday 25th February - Life Drawing Class - Opportunity to draw two dancers creating dance inspired poses. Click here for more information.
Saturday 28th February - Open 10am - 4pm - The Karen Chapman Company will perform live at 2pm dances inspired by a Harlow sculptures including 'Echo' by Antanas Brazdys for 25 minutes. The Karen Chapman company will then offer a 20 minutes workshop to teach the audience the freestyle dance created for the sculpture 'Legs'. A workshop for all ages taught by both the tutor and dance students. Come and have some fun and learn something new.
Wednesday 4th March 7pm - Burnt Mill students will perform an original dance inspired by Henry Moore's 'Family Group' stone sculpture and Harlow College students will perform a modern dance piece using 'Solo Flight' as their muse.

Saturday 14th March - Theatre Design Discussion Group - 2pm - 3pm Led by SBTD member Paul Burgess, who also curated our theatre display in this exhibition, this will be an opportunity to learn more about the theatre deesign in this exhibition and ask questions and discuss with others theatre and art. Informal session for all to attend.
Wednesday 18th March 7om - Dame Laura Knight and the Ballet - Talk by Timothy Wilcox about this inspirational female painter who features in our own permanent watercolour collection. Find out more by clicking here.

Saturday 21st March - Meet and Create with Derek Howarth - 11am -1 pm
Meet living legend Derek Howarth for an insight into the film industry and the craftsmanship of model making. Derek will give a unique insight into his exciting career over the last 40 years including his experiences working with Spielberg along with Henry Moore. There will be an opportunity for hands on experimentation under the supervision of this master craftsman and Associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.

Theatre Set Deisgns and Costumes:
Six designers will be showcasing their theatre set designs and some costumes. The selected designers have recently exhibited as part of the Society Of British Theatre Designers exhibition 'Make:Believe'. The display has a mix of working theatre models, costumes and photographs showcasing the diversity of this art form.
The Designers
Bob Crowley - A renowned theatre designer and theatre director.His stage designs have stunned West End and Broadway audiences for years.
Simon Daw - A UK based stage designer and artist. He studied Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art and a Postgrad at Motley Theatre Design course.
Matt Deely - Matt just finished a Stadium event, Kwibuka20 in Rwanda, and designed a set for 'Celtic Woman', USA tour. He studied at Motley and has 10 years experience working in set design.
Shizuka Hariu - A multidisciplinary designer and co-director of SHSH Architecture + Scenography.
Kimie Nakano - She has been inspired by the notions of time and space, experimenting with 'scent and sound' in a black box performance space.
Antonella Petraccaro - My work deals with the theatrical aspect of costume design. I am a defender of ‘costume performance’, as I see costume as the conveyor of meaning and as independent storyteller, and therefore playing a pivotal role in a production
